From the archives: San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake

This video was making the rounds earlier this week, as April 18th was the 106th anniversary of the 1906 earthquake that hit the San Francisco area. My great-grandparents were living in Santa Rosa, CA, at the time so this was especially fascinating to me. I find it remarkable that this footage exists! There are some additional photos available at HistoryPin.

  1. Thanks Nel for the post! The footage is fascinating and eerie at the same time with the horse carriages and automobiles driving around with the decimated city in the background.
